Salem is known for its rich maritime history, its cultural offerings, being the birthplace of the National Guard, and the infamous Witchcraft Trials of 1692. But did you also know that it is a perfect place to enjoy a great meal and your favorite beverage? 

Since 2014 when the zoning laws changed in the downtown area to allow breweries and distilleries, the brewery options have increased greatly. Here are some popular destinations to explore the craft beers, liquors, and ciders you have been craving. 

East Regiment Beer Company 

Located at 30 Church Street in Salem, The East Regiment Beer Company is a brewery and taproom destination that offers a family-friendly atmosphere, live music, children’s activities and much more! The wide selection of craft beers is inspired by the area’s historical aspects, favorite pastimes and local cuisine. 

East Regiment was created by two high school friends, Scott and Josh who both spent time in the military. They developed their love for craft beer and home brewing into a career they love. 

In addition to a great selection of drinks, the brewery offers a tasty food menu, beers-to-go, and a patio dining option during good weather where you can have your favorite pooch join in the fun! So, whether you’re a porter, IPA, or lager lover, there’s a beer, or a flight, for you at East Regiment. 

Notch Brewing 

Located in downtown Salem, Massachusetts on Derby Street, Notch Brewing has been in business since 2014. This taproom offers German-style beers with session-style (low alcohol content) beers like the Czech Pils and Černé Pivo, a black lager, pioneered by owner Chris Leahy. 

The Notch offers a series of year-round beers on tap, cans to go, and a mobile Biergarten that can travel to your event and bring the taproom experience right to you. 

Reserve the Notch for private parties or events or just come in and experience some of the fun events offered during the season including Thursday Night Music Series, skeeball events, and more. 

Far From the Tree Cider 

Hard cider lovers will enjoy Far From The Tree Cider located at 108 Jackson Street in Salem. 

This craft cider house specializes in unique, high-quality hard cider made from local apples and all-natural ingredients. In an effort to produce a high quality product that brings cider back to its roots, owners Al and Denise Snape control the entire production process from apple pressing straight through to canning.

Deacon Giles Distillery 

Salem’s very own craft distillery, Deacon Giles Distillery is located on Canal Street and distills gin, vodka, rum, and canned cocktails. Visit the Speakeasy Lab, the in-house bar and laboratory for crafting unique cocktails centered around their unique spirits. This lounge-like atmosphere allows for a clear view of the distilling process.
