Salem Celebrates the 4th of July

Celebrate America’s Independence Day in Salem, Massachusetts. The festivities start around 5 pm at Derby Wharf, National Historic Maritime Site. Bring your beach blankets and folding chairs to enjoy the 42-piece Hillyer Festival Orchestra. The evening also features a Kid Space play area and fireworks extravaganza that will be launched over Salem Harbor upon nightfall.

Take a Salem Harbor Tour

Nothing is quite like being out on the water on a warm summer day. The warm breezes, the smell of salt air, and scenic views for as far as the eye can see. Salem Harbor comes alive each summer with schooner tours, water activities, and visitors who have traveled to view the unique lighthouses of New England.

Start your waterfront activities with a tour of the harbor on the Schooner Fame, a full-scale replica of the first American privateer to set out during the War of 1812. The Fame sails up to five times daily from Pickering Wharf in downtown Salem! Visitors can view islands, forts, and lighthouses from an authentic gaff schooner during their trip! Be a part of the excitement as you can help raise the sails and be an active crew member, or just enjoy a relaxing end to the day, touring Salem with a sunset cruise.

Explore Historic Lighthouses

Hop aboard the Essex Heritage Lighthouse and Harbor Tours from June through September, where you can enjoy trips to Bakers Island Light, Misery Island, and explore the treasures of Salem’s islands and coastline. There is special programming available through the summer and fall. Summer tours leave from the Salem Ferry dock at 10 Blaney Street, Salem, MA.
